Hello

I have substantial knowledge, experience and understanding in the area of ICT in education; as a teacher, an advisory teacher and as an educational software developer and publisher. I feel passionately that ICT has the power to enhance and develop children’s learning and that this is vital in a world where 70% of all employees use IT in some way as part of their work.

I have held various educational posts, including that of Deputy Head and Advisory Teacher for ICT. I left teaching in 1994 to develop my own educational software company, BlackCat Educational Software, which became one of the major developers and suppliers of software to schools in the U.K. The company was sold to Granada TV in 1999.

After the sale I was employed by Granada Learning Ltd in the role of Software Publisher. This involved managing various groups of designers and software developers and in providing the educational perspective for the work of the teams.

About Me

profile

I arrived at my very first teaching post on the same day that the school took delivery of their very first computer.

The head assumed, which wasn't true, that as I was the youngest member of staff then I must know something about this new machine. I took it home and taught myself all I needed to know and since then IT has been an enormous part of my life.

I feel that I am an extremely effective communicator and am more than happy to make use of the various available technologies, where appropriate, to present my ideas, being equally at home talking to a Year 1 class or a senior management team.

2011

I am currently working hard on putting together a complete package for schools that will include, training, a school web site, assessment and mentoring.

Other Stuff

I have climbed Kilimanjaro, trekked to Everest Base Camp, play in a samba band, paint landscapes, enjoy geocaching and have a pilot’s licence.

Recent Works

My work is split between teaching, developing educational software for schools and creating web sites for business and non-profit organisations.

Over the years I have developed several award-winning software applications for education. I have always believed in providing pupils with powerful tools appropriate for their level of ability.

Recently I have created, in association with One Voice Music, a simple percussion composer for Windows™. This is available as a stand-alone application or as part of their Rhythm Matters eBooks series.

I am currently working on a system for schools to create and manage their own web-sites. In the pipeline are other educational online tools for assessment etc.
